Congratulations or good luck?! Whatever stage you are on considering UK as a destination, these are the top aspects to prepare for your upcoming trip.
1 - Cash/cards
Needless to say, you need to bring financial funds for your visit.
2 - Home
Depending on the budget really, the choices for accommodation would be a flat or "condo" style accommodation but minus condo luxuries. Flats are usually located on a midrise building.
Terrace houses are what townhouses are in Philippines.
Then semi detached like what we know as duplex or detached which is standing on its own. This style of housing is the most expensive.
3 - Bringing Clothes from Philippines to UK
Depending on the season of your arrival, aim for one large suitcase solely for clothes.
4 - Gadgets and plug adapter
Nowadays smart phone is a must. You can keep your existing Philippine SIM card just do not forget to place it on roaming before your actual flight. Keep your app for your Philippine phone network so it is convenient to load while you are here in UK.
3 prong plug adaptor is a must because our plugs here are different from yours although the voltage is the same.
5 - Food
I believe homesickness is the biggest challenge once you have arrived here specially if this is your first time to be so far from Philippines. To ease it slightly, familiar food flavours must be handy. These are not necessarily difficult to find here but can be quite expensive to be splurging on your first couple of months here and worthwhile bringing along with you:
sinigang mix
tuyo
tablea
6 - Documents
College transcript of records are sometimes good to bring for job application purposes. post graduate certificates are much more useful though for technical positions.
Elementary and secondary transcripts are usually not needed but if you are migrating with children, bringing birth and baptismal certificates can come handy specially if you intend to get the children into faith schools.
Certificate of marriage is a must though if coming married.
This is not an exhaustive list of things to consider when moving from Philippines to UK but covers most of the essentials for the generic individual. Of course, the list gets longer if you are travelling with family though and that will be discussed sometime in the near future.
