Like any other foreign country, there are multiple industries wherein Filipinos have opportunities to work in. Sometimes it is just a bit untapped or maybe simply not published on social media.
1. Retail
As a mother of two young children, I have been powering through customer service positions in retail. It might not be the highest paying options but nevertheless it is a good one because it is part time and working hours are very flexible enabling me to do most school runs and saving our family a good chunk by not paying child care.
2. Healthcare
The usual suspects for jobs in UK are in healthcare, most common of which will be in care and nursing sector. So common, there is even an entire social media community catering to nurses so I feel I am in no position to expand on this opportunity further.
Not all UK jobs Filipinos are in nursing!
3 - Accounting
This is a field that is gaining much more popularity among Filipinos. Since accounting is more or less universal unlike the legal profession, this is a field that has very big potential for Filipino migrants and pays well.
4 - IT
Arguably, Filipinos are among the best candidates for getting into IT because English is second nature to most of us. Secondly, there are very good "stepping stone" work experiences in Philippines that give Filipinos the much needed edge to meet the UK shortage of IT talent.
5 - Butcher
Believe it or not, there are Filipinos recruited to UK to be butchers. This is why I love UK because generally there are lots more opportunities to find here that gives a fighting chance for everybody whatever field you are in. It is just a matter of patience and resourcefulness to find these opportunities and one good starting point is to find a butcher's channel on social media that showcase their journey to UK from Philippines.
Where to look for UK jobs
Speaking of resourcefulness, these are a few online platforms where you can have a better feel of what UK jobs are on offer and for how much in real time. I have personally tried both and had a few successes but again I should reiterate that this is not in any way recruitment advice and that your own due diligence and research is expected for you to land on a legitimate position.
